Tanked is our latest animated short film in which a couple of amorous lobsters have their tango interrupted by a sadistic chef.
After a lovely run of festival screenings throughout 2022 we’re delighted to finally share it with the world.
We were invited by Manchester agency Studio Treble to contribute a piece of art to their refugee week campaign highlighting MOAS’ vital work in helping vulnerable migrants.
We got a bit carried away and ended up making a short film around the themes of fear, vulnerability and family reunification.
Shout out to John Hedley for pitching in to help with the animation and to Max Brodie at Nice Sound for the stellar audio design.
Buy Any Part is an online exchange that makes acquiring spare parts for anything you can think of a breeze.
They approached us to create an advertising campaign to highlight the convenience of their service - starting with an animated commercial targeting customers in the agriculture sector.
We came up with this little story about a farmer and his rooster sidekick who manage to get their day back on track with the help of Buy Any Part. You’ve got to make hay while the sun shines - especially when you live in Manchester!
All visual elements, from initial storyboards to animation right through to rendering and final delivery were handled by 3DR Studio.
A cautionary tale about the perils of spending too much time immersed in social media. OR... A lesson in opportunism for hairy, blue monsters!
We created this little in-house film in order to experiment with some After Effects rigging techniques and to remind ourselves to look up from our phones once in a while!
Paulo and Esther keep a remote lighthouse. They have a tragic shared history which comes bubbling up to the surface one stormy night when they rescue a vulnerable creature from the sea.
This personal development project has been a labour of love (and sometimes hate) that we’ve been working on for a while. Right now we love it so look out for updates soon.
In the meantime here’s a teaser trailer we made plus some extra behind the scenes goodies.
Character rigging (the process of placing animation controls and articulation points inside a 3D character model) is one of our specialities. There’s something magical about taking a character out of its default pose and designing its expressions. This video shows a quick test of Paulo’s rig being pulled around.
Testing the fox rig with a quick walk cycle animation.
We provided custom animation rigs for these awesome characters. The main challenge for the cows was to create rigs capable of performing a wide range of motion both as bipeds and quadrupeds.
Aardman is an incredible studio and it was great working with directing duo Andrew Lavery and Mat Rees on these hilarious commercials.
Character design, concept art, doodles and brain dumps live here
Aardman’s Danny Capozzi directed this charming commercial for Dacia.
We handled rigging and animation on-site at Aardman’s fantastic Bristol studio.
Back in 2011 we created this sequence for Eurosport’s coverage of the British Superbikes Championship.
The brief was to evoke the grit and grunge of the British weather and to reflect the lower budgets that teams on the British circuit have to work within compared to the glossier World Superbikes Championship.
Style frame we created when initially pitching for the project
Concept art created during early phases of the project
Look development
When former Derby based studio Boxframe asked us to help them pitch for the opening titles for the 2014 FIFA World Cup we thought they were joking - Imagine how we felt when we won!
3DR Studio ended up designing, modelling, rigging and animating all the digital assets for the sequence. Everything from characters to palm trees!
Matte painting and background art were provided by Paul Harrison
We created hundreds of digital assets for the sequence, some of which were only on screen for a few frames! Here’s a slightly longer look at one of them.
This is the second official video we made to help launch Oscar’s music career. Once again we teamed up with McCann Manchester and, with a skeleton crew (no pun intended) and just five weeks from initial treatment to delivery, this was a real test of our process and pipeline. We’re really happy with how it turned out and can’t wait to see where Oscar’s adventures take him next!

We created this animation for integrated agency Mojofuel in 2010. We were given the opening line: “Mr Mojo was standing in front of his mirror.” and the closing line: “Mr Mojo realised it was time for tea.”
The rest was up to us.
3 Weeks later we had this (very) short film in which our hero uses his digital design super powers to thwart the bad guys.
